Diagnostic enigma: primary pulmonary artery sarcoma.
Primary angiosarcoma of pulmonary artery is a very rare lesion. We present a case of primary angiosarcoma that was initially misdiagnosed as a subacute massive pulmonary thromboembolism in a 30-year-old man. This rare disease is usually indistinguishable from acute or chronic thromboembolic disease of the pulmonary arteries. The clinical and radiological findings of pulmonary artery angiosarcom...
متن کاملPrimary pulmonary artery sarcoma resembling chronic thromboembolic pulmonary disease.
Two cases of primary pulmonary artery sarcoma resembling chronic thromboembolic disease features are presented. Tumour identification was achieved after pulmonarv thromboendarterectomy, which was indicated by documentation of a prothrombotic state in both patients. A doubtful history of pulmonary emboli or deep venous thrombosis should alert medical personnel to the possible presence of a prima...
متن کاملPrimary pulmonary artery sarcoma detected with a pulmonary infarction.
Primary malignant tumors of the pulmonary arteries occur infrequently. The clinical presentation and diagnostic imaging features of the tumor are usually nonspecific and correct diagnosis is often delayed. In this report, we present a case of pulmonary artery sarcoma. MRI and PET-CT were found to be useful for differentiating the tumor from a thromboembolism.
متن کاملPulmonary Artery Sarcoma
Pulmonary artery sarcomas (PAS) are extremely rare sarcomas of uncertain histogenesis that often mimic pulmonary thromboemboli. This is a report of a 60-year-old female patient who presented with recurrent chest pain and cough. The patient was first diagnosed with pulmonary embolism but she did not improve on anticoagulant therapy. Follow-up imaging studies revealed a mass in the left hilar reg...
متن کاملPrimary pulmonary artery sarcoma. A method of resection.
Primary pulmonary artery sarcoma classically presents with symptoms and findings suggestive of acute pulmonary artery occlusion. An angiocentric mass or the finding of spindling neoplasm on needle biopsy should suggest this neoplasm. The rare unilateral location in the present case permitted resection by pneumonectomy. An endarterectomy technique was used to extract loosely adherent tumor-throm...
